Request A Callback From An Investigator

Why Would Someone Be Under Surveillance

Surveillance is one of the most important methods used by private investigators to help out their clients. For private investigators, surveillance is particularly important because it can provide them with information that is very accurate and difficult to dispute. This allows clients to get proper peace of mind without worrying that they may have made the wrong decision.

Private investigators carry out surveillance for many different clients in many different situations. In some cases, it is part of a wider investigation that includes other investigative methods. In other cases, it is the primary focus of the investigation.

Reasons Someone Would Be Under Surveillance

There are plenty of reasons why a private investigator will conduct surveillance on a person. A few scenarios that are not uncommon include:

  • The person is a spouse that is suspected of being unfaithful and the private investigator has been hired to uncover evidence of the same
  • An employer has been losing money or items from their company and require the private investigator to monitor a few employees that are possible suspects
  • An employee is suspected of misusing company resources e.g. a vehicle in a separate business or for personal jobs
  • The subject may be a suspect in a crime that someone else is being charged for and the private investigator has been hired by the defense attorney to find evidence of the same
  • The subject is an employee that is suspected of committing fraud by claiming to be away from work due to illness
  • The subject is suspected to be planning to commit a crime and the private investigator has been hired to gather evidence that will enable them to be stopped in time

  • What Type Of Surveillance Would Be Used In These Scenarios?

There are different surveillance techniques and a private investigator can choose a specific technique based on the particulars of the case. In the above scenarios, you can expect the following:

    • For spouses that are possibly unfaithful, mobile surveillance is the most likely course of action since it can be difficult to know exactly where the rendezvous will be. However, if the client has an idea about the location, stationary surveillance will work too.
    • An employer that has a thief amongst their staff can simply ask a private investigator to put their premises under surveillance i.e. static surveillance.
    • An employee misusing resources such as a car will need mobile surveillance
    • A private investigator can conduct static surveillance on the house of a person suspected of pretending to be sick

In most of these cases, covert surveillance techniques will be used by the private investigator since the subject isn't supposed to know they are under surveillance. This means that the investigator will have to use equipment such as cameras with zoom lenses, long-range voice recorders etc.
