Private Detective in Elmstone

Elmstone is a small village, in the Eastern part of County of Kent. Elmstone is located less than a mile from Preston village, about 2 miles from the larger village of Wingham; Sandwich is in about 6 miles, and the Cathedral City of Canterbury is about 8.5 miles to the west of Elmstone. Elmstone has deep historic roots - it was recorded in Domesday Book. The population of the parish (Elmstone with Preston and Stourmouth) is about 900 people.

Elmstone is well known for its a small but pretty-looking medieval parish church, which is a Grade II listed building, standing in Sheerwater Road. Interestingly, this church remains to this day without recognized dedication. It is a relatively small flint building, consisting of a chancel, Norman nave, and 14th-century north aisle. It was built by Normans in 1100s, with a small tower added in the following century, and was redecorated and enlarged in the early 1300s. The church has a small organ and original windows.

It also has a font with a big clasped bowl, but the base is most likely to be Early English. There is a ring of three bells in the tower, which were cast and hung by Richard Phelps s in 1712. Later, in Victorian times, the Elmstone church underwent two extensive restorations and redecorations: in 1878 and in 1900.
