Surveillance
What is surveillance?
As private investigators we conduct surveillance for a number of reasons for our clients. Surveillance involves following a subject, observing their activities, and taking notes or photographs. We may follow the subject in a vehicle, observe them from a distance, or conduct static surveillance at locations like homes, offices, or other places the subject visits.

When it's used: This is typically used in investigations involving infidelity, child custody, insurance fraud, or criminal activity. For example, we may follow a spouse suspected of cheating to document their actions.
What Can Private Investigator Surveillance Reveal?
- Infidelity or Cheating: Surveillance is often used to gather evidence of a spouse or partner’s infidelity. A PI might follow a person to document meetings with a third party, record video evidence.
- Fraud or Financial Crimes: In cases of suspected fraud (such as insurance fraud, workers' comp fraud, or business fraud), surveillance can capture evidence of someone lying or misrepresenting their condition or activities. For example, we may track an individual claiming an injury and catch them participating in physical activities they’ve claimed to be unable to do.
- Criminal Activity: We can conduct surveillance relating to criminal activity to attempt to establish suspect’s actions, location, or associations. Surveillance might also be used to track down missing persons or find criminal activity.
- Child Custody Cases: Surveillance can help uncover information about a parent’s behaviour, especially in cases involving custody battles. We might document a parent’s interactions with the child, their lifestyle, or any dangerous or reckless behaviour.
- Corporate Investigations: Surveillance can help businesses uncover issues such as employee theft, corporate espionage, or other unethical behaviour. We may conduct background checks, monitor employees’ activities, or investigate competitors
How Does Surveillance Work?
- Planning: We will first gather information from the client about the subject and the goal of the surveillance (e.g., proving infidelity, documenting fraudulent behaviour, etc.). We will create a plan, which may include identifying the best times and locations to observe the subject, and deciding on the methods and tools to use.
- Execution: We will carry out the surveillance, often over several days or weeks. We may follow the subject, observe specific locations, or track their movements.
- Documentation: We keep detailed notes and logs of their observations, often including photos, video footage, and other relevant evidence. We may also take written statements, and will ensure that the evidence is legally obtained and up to a court standard.
- Reporting: After the surveillance, we will present the findings to the client, typically in the form of a report with supporting evidence such as photos, videos, or written logs. This can be used for personal purposes (e.g., confirming infidelity), legal proceedings (e.g., in a child custody or fraud case), or to support criminal investigations.
