Elmley, an island, which now is a part of a bigger one - Isle of Sheppey, located off the northern coast of Kent in the Thames Estuary, about 46 miles to the east of London. Over time the channels between the isles silted up, so now they are one continuous island. There also used to be a village of Elmley, which now abandoned and the territory is a part of a huge National Nature Reserve.

In the late 19th century the village of Elmley was a settlement with a population of about 200 people and 30 dwellings; it had a church, a school, and a public house. The cement works, the major local employer, was closed in 1902; Elmley School - in the 1920s, and in the 1960s the church was demolished. The only surviving buildings of the village are 'Kingshill Farmhouse' and 'Kingshill Farmhouse Barn', which are Grade II listed.

The north wing two-storey 'Kingshill Farmhouse with an attic in red brick and tiled roof has the date 1757 scratched on a brick. 'Kingshill Farmhouse Barn' with adjoining cattle shed date from 18th century; it is used as a wedding venue. There also is an accommodation called Shepherd's Huts. The Reserve, formed in 1970s and managed by Elmley Conservation Trust, is a place extremely popular with wildlife enthusiasts and photographers thanks to abundance of wildlife, especially birds.
