Its beach is rather popular and can be reached by railway or foot. The beach is bordered by woodland and offers different beach huts, unique sand dunes and a long flat terrain. An area for naturists and pool that are used for canoeing and pleasure boating are also on offer. A big car park is situated at the beach at the end of Beach Road. Its quayside also acts as landmark and has a granary with a bridge-like overhead structure that has been turned into flats.

Another feature of Wells-next-the-Sea is The Buttlands, an area with lime trees and big, stylish Georgian houses. The town offers restaurants, traditional pubs and hotels (for example the Crown Hotel). Most shops and businesses are situated on Staithe Street. Some of the town's educational and religious sites include Alderman Peel High School, a Methodist church (located on Theatre Road) and the Wells Catholic Church (overlooking The Buttlands).
