Private Detective in Lydd

Being one of the larger settlements on the Romney Marsh, Lydd is a most southern town and an electoral ward in the English County of Kent. The Lydd parish comprises the town of Lydd, Dungeness, Lydd-on-Sea and some parts of Greatstone. High Street Lydd passes through the town centre and some notable buildings in the town include Gordon house longhall, a guildhall and a medieval courthouse. 15thcentury chamberlains and and churchwarden accounts are also found alongside town charters.

The town developed during the Romano-British period on Shingle Island. The Saxon period saw the continued development of the town as Roman materials were used for its construction by the Saxon church. It was a smuggling base in the 18thand 19thcenturies. During World War One, it became an important artillery practice camp and led to invention of Lyddite explosive in 1888. Lydd is an important training ground for the armed forces.

Lydd Church that belongs to the Diocese of Canterbury is the longest parish church in Kent and has the tallest tower in the county. It was severely damaged in World War Two bombing and after restoration became a Grade I listed building in 1950. Lydd Golf Club and Driving Range is on the Romney Road. It hosts the 18-hole championship quality course; 18-bay covered driving range, 6-hole par 3 course, two chipping greens and a putting green.
