Godmersham is a village and a civil parish within Ashford District of Kent County, South-East England. The village stands on the A28 road midway between Ashford and Canterbury, about six miles north-east of Ashford. Godmersham enjoys location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Godmersham's population is 320 people living within the two communities - Godmersham and the adjacent hamlet of Bilting. About 150 people live in the neighbouring parish of Crundale, and since 1946 two parish churches share one priest.

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book; The very first known record of Godmersham is dated AD 824, when King of Mercia named Beornulph gave this settlement to Wulfred, Archbishop of Canterbury. Bilting hamlet is supposed to be even older than Godmersham itself. The parish church, which is Grade I listed, is dedicated to St Lawrence the Martyr. Experts date it differently - from the 10th to mid-11th century.

The surviving parts of the original building include , the northern section of the west wall, north wall of the nave and the western end of the chancel. Five of its six bells were cast in 1687 right in the churchyard, and the sixth one was added in 1999. A fine bas-relief, carved in 12th century, which is hung on the south wall of the chancel, is believed to depict Thomas Becket.
