The town of Potters Bar is situated in Hertfordshire and forms part of the London commuter belt. It is twinned with two towns - Franconville (located in France) and Viernheim (located in Germany). There are several religious sites such as St Mary the Virgin and All Saints Church, Potters Bar Spiritualist Church (located on Hill Rise), Potters Bar Baptist Church and St John's Methodist Church. The town also offers six primary schools, five secondary schools and a performing arts school (Top Hat Stage School).

Some of its sporting amenities include a King George's Field (located behind the Furzefield Centre), swimming pool, leisure centre and a golf course. The golf course is situated off the M25 on Darkes Lane and is one of its places of interest. It was founded in 1923 by William Ponikwer. Another place of interest is The Old Manor located in Wyllyotts Place on Darkes Lane. This freehouse pub and restaurant is open seven days of the week.

There is also the Wyllyotts Centre that has a cinema, theatre and events venue. The town's museum is also located at the Wyllyotts Centre. The museum opened in 1990 and houses artefacts and pottery that were discovered in the town during construction. It also has items from the castle at South Mimms and from other places situated in and around the town.
