The suburban town of Milnrow is located at the foothills of the hill country, Sout Pennines. The River Beal runs through the town. Milnrow can be found within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, part of Great Manchester, in England. The town is poistioned next to M62 motorway's junction 21. Neighbouring locations include Machester, Rochdale town centre, Rochdale Canal, and Windy Hill. The villages of Newhey as well as Tunshill are parts of the town of Milnrow.

Milnrow had numerous industrial establishments that has offered various jobs for the residents. One of these establishments was the Butterworth Hall Mill, the area's final cotton mill which was dismantled during the latter part of the 1990s. Another former cotton mill was the Ellenroad Ring Mill, which is now a museum. There used to be a Milnrow Urban District a local government district that was founded on 1894 but was abolished in the year 1974.

One listed structure in the town is the Milnrow War Memorial, which was unveiled in year 1924. The war memorial used to be erected on central Milnrow, positioned close to the Milnrow Bridge. The Milnrow War Memorial now stands in the Memorial Park at Newhey. Another distinct structure in the town is the Clegg Hall, which dates back to the seventeenth century. It was constructed on the site that used to be a house and inn during the middle ages.
