Winchcombe is a lovely town based in Gloucestershire, England. It is also a former capital of the Kingdom of Mercia. Before Winchcombe came to develop, it was we known for cattle rustling and other lawlessness which occurred as a result of poverty in the region. During this period, natives grew tobacco for survival. But its major growth came in the medieval period when wool trade rose and money obtained from the wool rich traders was used to build the magnificent church of St Peter between 1456 and 1474.

If you are visiting Winchcombe for the first time, there are a lot of places to visit and view, for instance; old structures and historical areas which have great stories to learn about. The Winchcombe railway is a must visit place. Opened in 1905, the railway station has played a major role in provision of transport for both people and their goods. Currently operated by Great Western Railway, the railway station passenger service was shut down in 1960 and freight services in 1964, and again reopened in 1987.

As you take a walk around the amazing town of Winchcombe, you will come across several magnificent structures such as the St Peter's church. This is one among many great wool churches in the Cotswolds region. The church mostly dates back to early medieval period. But the new church with the perpendicular design was constructed in the 15thcentury and it has a high wide nave with an outer striking tower that stands 90ft high. Many people come to view this ancient beautiful structure and it's also one of the iconic buildings of the town.
