Private Detective in Thaxted

Located in the county of Essex is the town of Thaxted, an old English town recorded in the Domesday survey of 1068 as a place where thatch was got. In the earlier times it was known as a light industry town for cutlery but declined with the rise of Sheffield. The small town had a population of 2,845 as at the 2011 census and has remained around the same number over the centuries with very little fluctuations.

Thaxted windmill also known as the John Webb's Windmill that was constructed in 1804 using locally available materials like bricks made only half a mile away. It is a grade II listed building that has been restored to functioning conditions though currently not working after losing the sails in 2010. It can be visited by the public between 2 to 5 pm on Saturdays and holidays. Its restoration was made possible by visitors and enthusiastic volunteers.

In the neighbourhood of John Webb's sailless windmill are the almshouses at the St. John church. They were built between 1340 and 1510 with the famous 181 feet tall flying buttressed spire, the only medieval stone spire found in the county of Essex. Its windows are perpendicular with a stained glass representing Adam and Eve. Often referred to as the cathedral of Essex, the building stands on a hill overlooking the town. It had a vicar called Conrad Noel or the Red Vicar due to his openly Christian Socialism ideologies.
