Private Detective in Rochford

The medieval market town Rochford in Essex, located about 20 miles from London, has a fascinating history with famous names and events, public executions and royal visits. For instance, in the Square - the common place for public events - you can find a plaque commemorating John Simson who was burnt at the stake for his protestant convictions in 1555.

Rochford Hall, probably having origins in 12th-13th centuries, was a property of Boleyn family for a certain period in the 16th century. Today, it is owned together by a family living in it and Rochford Hundred Golf Club. Adjacent to the Hall is St Andrew's Church - a typical example of the 13th-14th century stone construction. It is still functional with an active community. In the South Street there's an Old House reputedly built in 1270, which is believed to be inevitably haunted as the oldest building in Rochford

One of the town's peculiarities is that instead of a High Street, its town centre has a cross pattern comprising four streets. There's an old Market Square with a varied selection of businesses, shops and cafes. The weekly markets are among the oldest and are traditionally held here on Tuesdays since 1247. Other attractive events and festivals in and around the town include Rochford District Sports Festival, the Rochford Art Festival, and the ever-popular Wild Woods Day.
