Private Detective in Sale

Sale is a town in the Borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, located 5.2 miles from Manchester city centre. Sale stands on the south bank of the River Mersey. The name Sale probably originates from an Anglo-Saxon word standing for 'a place near willow trees'. The oldest existing building in Sale is Eyebrow Cottage, built around 1670. Sale has many samples of architecture worth visiting: 18 Grade II listed buildings and three ones Grade II* listed - St. Martin and St. John the Divine churches, and Ashton New Hall.

Sale Old Hall, built in 1603, unfortunately, hasn't been preserved - it was demolished in 1920, but its dovecote and lodge still exist. They now belong to Sale Golf Club. Sale Town Hall, built in 1914, was enlarged and renovated in 1939/40 but in December 1940, just five months after opening, it was badly damaged by an incendiary bomb (during the Manchester Blitz 600 incendiary bombs were dropped on Sale). Its restoration lasted until 1952.

The Hall is now a part of award winning Sale Waterside complex with an enjoyable waterside plaza area and a number of community facilities: Trafford Local Studies Library, Robert Bolt Theatre, Waterside Arts Centre and Trafford Magistrates Court. Outside the town hall, a cenotaph (Grade II listed) that commemorates the people from Sale who died in both World Wars - 400 in the First and 300 in the Second.
