Private Detective in Ripley

One investigation of British family history brought us to Ripley in Derbyshire. In accordance with research, held in 2006, this town has the largest portion of ethnic-English residents. The village was mentioned in Domesday Book and consisted of just several stone cottages in Middle Ages. Later, it developed a number of industries (starting with mineral resources exploitation by Butterley Company and added by coal/iron mining and cast iron rails production) and gradually grew into a modern town with the population over twenty thousand.

The oldest recorded church in town is the Methodist Church situated in Wood Street. It is still active today being just one of many other places to worship. Other architectural attractions of this estate village are Town Hall just on the Market Place and Butterley Hall on the outskirts. The last is a Grade II listed 18th-century building that now homes HQ of Derbyshire Police Force (Derbyshire Constabulary).

If you are a nature enthusiast, you are advised to take a short ride to the north to Butterley Reservoir. Built at the end of the 18thcentury to provide water for the local and currently disused canal, the reservoir is now a beautiful area where you can walk along footpaths and enjoy the sceneries. Fishing with a permit is allowed. Anglers can use platforms and watch diverse waterfowl including moorhens, coots and grebes.
