Aylesbury is a market town located in the county of Buckinghamshire, England. The town's name originates from the Old English "Fort of gel", but what it exactly means has not yet been determined. Throughout the years the town has undergone a number of transformations and today there are many landmarks to testify about the turbulent past of Aylesbury. According to the records of the last census, there are 58,740 people living on the territory of Aylesbury.

One significant landmark in this lovely town is the Aylesbury Clocktower. The Clock Tower is located in the heart of the Aylesbury's Market Square and it is a real attraction. Its design was made by the architect D Brandon, who has designed a number of other public buildings in Aylesbury. On the current location of the Clock Tower there used to be a Market House however it was demolished in 1866. Ten years later the Aylesbury Clocktower was built.

On the Market Square in Aylesbury people can also admire another important landmark, the Statue of John Hampden, who is known among the people as a great patriot. He was an English politician, one of the few who dared to challenge the authority of Charles I of England. He was a rebellious person who stood trial because he refused to pay taxes for ship money, and with some of his actions he heated up the already tense atmosphere prior to the Civil War.
