The town of Bootle is located in Merseyside. The town's economy pivoted around the docks that are situated at the northern side of the town. Also located on the northern side is the New Strand Shopping Centre. The New Strand Shopping Centre has several major stores as well as local businesses. Other amenities include the leisure centre (with a gym and swimming pool) and a big selection of pubs, bars, restaurants and snooker clubs.

Bootle also has 18 Grade II listed buildings such as Christ Church, the former Bootle Borough Hospital, Castree Bros Warehouse and Langton Dock Pumphouse. The town hall that dates back to 1882 is one of these Grade II listed buildings and one of Bootle's places of interest. It is in sandstone and slate was used for the roofs. Another place of interest is the bus station that is situated under the New Strand Shopping Centre.

The town has two railway stations (Oriel Road and New Strand). Bootle Docks no longer provide passenger ships and is currently only used for freight services. Its centre boasts with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and many large office blocks. Bootle also has one further education college, Hugh Baird College. The college is located on Balliol Road and provides more than 300 courses. Open-plan study areas and a University Centre are located at the L20 Building on Stanley Road.
