Private Detective in Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a ceremonial county, non-metropolitan county, and, since 1995, unitary county, located on the biggest island in England with a total population about 139 thousand people. The island lies in the English Channel, about 6 km from the mainland. Most of nine main towns of the Isle of Wight are located along the coast and towards the eastern side of the island; however, Newport, the county town with a population of about 25 thousand, stands in the centre.

A number of interesting events take place on Isle of Wight, including such annual festivals as the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival. Several racing regattas in Cowes, which is a centre for sailing, attract lots of competitors. The Isle of Wight is also famous for being home to the poets Tennyson and Swinburne, and final home to Queen Victoria, who died in January 1901 in Osborne House, her much-loved summer residence in East Cowes.

Now Osborne House is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Isle of Wight. It was built in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who himself created the design. For many years it served royal family as a summer home; after Queen Victoria passed away, it was given to the state and partly turned into a museum.
