Private Detective in Saltash

Saltash is a town in southeast Cornwall, England with a population a bit over 16 thousand. It stands just across the River Tamar from Plymouth, that's why Saltash is often called "Gateway to Cornwall". Travellers who enter the county by train, cross the Royal Albert Bridge, a famous railway bridge (Grade I listed object), designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunnel, the engineering talent of Victorian times, and opened by Prince Albert in 1859.

Next to the Royal Albert Bridge, there is Tamar Bridge, opened to traffic in October 1961 and officially opened on 26 April 1962 by H.M. Queen Elizabeth. Before this, the main means of crossing the river for cars and pedestrians was the ferry, which was in operation ever since 12th century. Actually, Saltash developed around the river crossing. The very first settlements of this area were the villages of Trematon and Burraton.

The motte-and-bailey Trematon Castle, built following the Norman Conquest, is well worth visiting, and so is Saltash Museum and Local History Centre, if you love history. There are many interesting sights in the town, including The St Nicholas and St Faith church, built in Norman times and restored in 1869, and St Stephens by Saltash, the main church in Saltash, most of which dates from the 15th century, and the base of the tower is believed to be of the 12th century.
