Private Detective in Whitburn

The village of Whitburn might only have a population of about 5 000 people, but it still managed to produce a few well known football players such as George Farrow, Jack Weddle and Bill Robinson. The village is located on the coast of England and is close to the City of Sunderland. The name is derived from Old English and means white house or barn and it was most likely a Saxon settlement.

After the Spanish Armada attacked England in the 1500s, two of Spanish sailing ships ran on to the bottom of Whitburn Rocks. The local residents of Whitburn used this opportunity to steal goods such as a bell and oak beams from the wreckage of the ships. The stolen bell was put in the church. Even though there was an increase in the community in the 1870s when the Marsden Pit was sunk, the village managed to hold on to its village character.

The village offers recreational amenities such as tennis courts, a cricket ground and bowling greens. Other amenities and attractions are a statue of the famous writer Lewis Carroll (located in the library), a Whitburn Coastal Park (a recreation spot for birdwatchers) and Whitburn windmill. The 18th-century windmill is designated as a Grade II listed building and looks out across the sea. There are also three pubs and three schools.
