This Isle of Wight town called Newport is a civil parish island off England's south coast. With a population of 25,496 as at 2011, this town is situated slightly to the north of the island's centre. It has a quay at the head of river Medina. The town has some signs of Roman settlement, it was largely uninhabited then up to the time of the Norman Conquest. It was incorporated in 1608 as a borough.

Also known as the Minster Church of St. Thomas from 2008, St Thomas' Church is the civically recognized Church of England in Isle of Wight. It was built in the late 12th century and dedicated to Thomas Becket (St. Thomas of Canterbury). After years of deterioration the church could not be renovated and a new one was built on its site between 1854 and 1855. Its tower contains a ring of 12 bells and retained the designs of the first building.

Newport High Street is the town's centre of shopping and fun. Ti is considered to be the street on the island's capital. It hosts the major shops and supermarkets.
