Private Detective in Andover

Andover, located in the Hampshire County, England, is a town that it was mentioned for the first time in history in 950 by King Edred, who has built a hunting lodge in that area. The name of the town in the Anglo Saxon times was recorded as Andeferas most likely coming from a Celtic origin. What started as a small market town quickly evolved and today Andover is the home of more than 64,000 people.

In 1733 Andover had a workhouse that according to some reports was able to accommodate up to 120 inmates. The workhouse was divided into two sections, the north section that accommodated the female inmates and the south section that accommodated the male ones. The Andover workhouse had a reputation of being a very strict facility and many scandals evolved around its operation. Once the workhouse was closed it was used as an annex to the Cricklade College and later on as a residential accommodation.

If we take a peek into the history of Andover we will come across one very important landmark, the Rooksbury Mill. This facility is believed to have existed ever since 1089, however the current building of the mill dates back to the 16th and 17th century. Over the years the mill was passed from one owner to another and was used for different purposes. After a big fire in 2002 the building was sold to a couple that decided to restore the mill and kept most of the original design.
