Private Detective in Stretford

Stretford is a large town in Greater Manchester on the flat ground between Manchester Ship Canal and River Mersey. With a population of 37,500, this town is a busy place. It lies 6 km south west of Manchester city and 6.8 km north east of Altrincham. In the19th century it was an agricultural village equipped with its own market and providing 508 tonnes of vegetables every year. Since 1910 it has been the home of the famous Manchester United F.C.

At the junction of Warwick Talbot roads is the Trafford Town Hall in Stretford. It is located on the opposite side of the cricket ground of Old Trafford and was built in 1931 ending in 1933 to coincide with when the charter of Stretford was granted on 16th September that year. The building is steel framed with two storeys, an attic and basement floors. It is built with bricks and beautiful gritstone dressings. The building has been renovated and changes made over time hence the magnificent building.

The public hall of Stretford was built in 1878 with a mixed gothic revival style. After the death of the owner, John Rylands, it was bought by the council to serve various purposes before it was later reopened in 1949 as a civic theatre. It was given a grade II listing in 1987 but went into disrepair hence the refurbishment and use conversion in the 1990s as offices of the council. In 1997 it was reopened again as the Stretford Public Hall for community use.
