The district of Putney is located in south-west London. It is part of Greater London and is close to Charing Cross. Some of its attractions include the Putney Sculpture Trail that includes nine of Alan Thornhill's sculptures. These sculptures are found along the River Thames between Riverside Quarter and Leaders Gardens. Another sculptor, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, also had a studio in the town. One of the main places of interest is Putney railway station. It is on the border of Travelcard Zone 2 and Zone 3. South West Trains operate all the trains and station. It was opened in 1846 and currently has four platforms. Some of the other transport facilities include a commuter service operated from Putney Pier and two tube stations (East Putney tube station and Putney Bridge tube station).

Putney is a very important rowing centre. One of its landmarks is Putney Pier (situated on Putney Embankment close to Putney Bridge). The Putney Embankment, which is part of a Conservation Area, is home to many rowing clubs. It serves as the start of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race. Another landmark is Putney Bridge that is a Grade II listed structure. Other amenities include the Putney Wharf that offers bars, restaurants and shops and the Putney Exchange shopping centre.
