Private Detective in Ashburton

Ashburton is a very small town located in Dartmoor in Devon, on the south-southeastern edge. In the past Ashburton was very significant as it was the center for the administration of the tin-mining industry. Today it is considered to be the biggest town in the National Park, and according to the last census it has a population of around 4,170 people. The habitants can enjoy in the entertainment this town has to offer and spent time in the pubs or restaurants located in the heart of Ashburton.

Even though the town is quite small it has a very rich history and some landmarks worth visiting. One of those landmarks is the riffle range called The Rippon Tor Rifle Range. Once the Second World War started, the village Widecombe-in-the-Moor, where the riffle range was located, saw increased activity, as it was used for training the military forces. Most of the site is still in a very good condition despite the important role it had in the past.

In Ashburton there is also another very important site, the St Lawrence Chapel. The chapel was built around 1301 in honor of St. Lawrence. In 1314 Bishop Stapledon surrendered the ownership of the chapel to the town of Ashburton with the request for people to pray for his soul. In 1986 the chapel was restored and was declared a Heritage. Today it is open for public and accessible for everyone who is willing to come and visit.
