In Cumbria, North West England there is a small town called Ambleside. The town belongs to the Lakes civil parish, but that has not always been the case, as from 1894 to 1935 it had its own independent urban district council. Today Ambleside is known for the hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking opportunities it offers. It features many hotels, guest houses and entertainment facilities both for locals and tourists. According to the last census Ambleside is the home of 2,600 people.

One of the premises that people find most amusing is the Bridge House. It is believed that the Bridge House was originally built more than 300 years ago with the idea of being a summer house and an apple store. In 1926 the locals decided to buy the house and gave it to the National Trust. Today the house acts as an information center for the needs of the National Trust and is one of the Trust's Windermere and Troutbeck properties.

Ambleside puts emphasizes on the importance of proper education which is why they have decided to reopen the campus at University of Cumbria. The campus has long been a subject of dispute, especially since in 2009 the university has announced its plans for closure. In 2011 the university reconsidered their decision and decided to reopen the campus following some major renovations. The work was completed in 2014 and the campus was finally ready to pick up where it left off a few years back.
